Battery K
1st US Artillery, USA
Battery K was designated a "horse artillery" or "flying artillery" from June 1862 until the end of the Civil War. In a horse artillery, ever man rode a horse. This allowed the battery to move relatively quickly and to operate in conjunction with cavalry units.
